We are sad to report the unexpected death of David Livingston who discovered PALB2 in 2006.
Dr. William Foulkes, James McGill Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Oncology and Human Genetics at McGill University said this about him:
““I was very sad to hear of the sudden death of David on 17th October. His work touched upon so many different areas of cancer research. Most relevant to me was of course his work on PALB2. I told him in 2006, soon after he identified PALB2, that Marc Tischkowitz and I had found a convincing high penetrance truncating variant in this gene in two families with breast cancer, and he immediately offered to help us characterise them. This made all the difference to us, and was the beginning of several important collaborations. He was a force of nature, a bon vivant, a friend and wonderful scientist. I will miss many things about him, not least his love of Ice Hockey and his beloved Bruins.”
